Eye care of young adults (18-39)

Today, more than 90% of young adults use digital devices every day. You often spend 7 hours or more in front of a screen per day. You’re using these devices in all situations and different configurations; standing, sitting, lying down, at work, on public transport, at home… Yet, they demand a lot from our eyes. At varying and often close distances, small characters… our eyes are constantly working to accommodate.
Interpreting the symptoms
- Eyestrain
- Tired eyes
- Loss of focus
- Blurred or double vision
- Headaches
- Fatigue
- Neck and shoulder pain
These are signs of visual fatigue. This syndrome concerns 60% of you. When you feel visual fatigue, identify and stop the activity you think is causing them. Make sure that your visual fatigue is not due to pre-existing eye conditions such as myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism or the appearance of presbyopia (for those approaching forty).
The solution
It is recommended that you visit your optometrist to maintain and protect your eyesight. It is also necessary to organize your work space in the best way to avoid eye fatigue;
- Adjust the brightness of the screen to an ambient light, with dark characters on a light background. The screen should be placed in such a way that light cannot reflect on it.
- While working, ensure that the document has enough light by using a lamp.
- Make sure that your eyes are not dehydrated or tired. Consider drinking plenty of water, and alternate work on screen with other activities so as to rest the eyes at least ten minutes each hour.
